Topic-based communities with posts, comments and direct contact features. A teen might look for gaming help, fandom discussion or answers to an awkward question. A useful community and a harmful one can sit on the same platform.

The essentials
Age, contact, spending
Minimum age
Generally at least 13 and above the applicable local minimum. Mature content is 18+; the US iOS app listing is also rated 18+.
Age check
Reddit describes age assurance and verification for regional rules and mature content. Teen protections can depend on identifying the account’s age correctly.
Who can contact teens
Comments, chat requests and private messages create different contact routes. Review actual teen defaults and do not assume a pseudonym prevents unwanted contact.
Disappearing content
Posts and comments can persist, be quoted or be copied. Deleting an account or comment is not a guarantee of removing screenshots or external copies.
Public content
Most community posts and profile activity are public. Avoid combining an anonymous account with details that identify a school, location or real name.
Spending
Reddit Premium subscriptions and Reddit Gold purchases are listed in the checked iOS store. Community advice can also lead to external sellers or scams; verify before following purchase links.

How to set them up
Review Reddit’s teen protections
Read the official Teen Safety guide, confirm the account’s age status and review chat and mature-content settings. Regional parent-approval features can differ; use device limits rather than assuming a universal parent transcript dashboard.

Privacy
What gets shared
A pseudonym is not complete anonymity. Public posting history can reveal a great deal when several apparently minor details are combined.
Safety
What parents should know
- Reddit’s official age guidance distinguishes general membership from mature 18+ content and higher local minimums.
- Volunteer moderation and upvotes do not independently verify advice. Health, financial and safety decisions should not rely on an anonymous reply.
Safeguards described here are reported by the company in its own materials (see Reddit: official safety, eligibility or parent guidance (opens in new tab)). They are not independent safety guarantees, and Lowkey has not tested them.
