The essentials
Age, contact, spending
Minimum age
At least 13, with higher consent requirements in some countries.
Age check
Pinterest collects birthday information and describes additional verification when a teen tries to change age details.
Who can contact teens
Under-16 messaging is limited to mutual followers, with possible requests from group-board collaborators. Older teen settings can permit broader interaction.
Disappearing content
Pins and boards are not a disappearing-message format. Saving or deleting a Pin does not control copies or the external website it links to.
Public content
Teen profile visibility depends on age and settings. Older teens may be able to make a profile public; secret boards and private profiles are different controls.
Spending
Shopping Pins and external retailer links can lead to purchases. A saved image is not a quality guarantee or an endorsement of the seller.

How to set them up
Set a parental passcode
Use Pinterest’s account settings with your teen to set the parental passcode described in the official guide. Review profile visibility, social permissions and account changes that the passcode protects.

Privacy
What gets shared
Check profile discoverability, collaborators and data settings. Pinterest’s parent guide says teen visibility and contact settings change as users get older.
Safety
What parents should know
- The official guide distinguishes private teen profiles, older-teen choices and group-board contact routes.
- Talk through edited appearance pictures and check external links before entering payment or personal information.
Safeguards described here are reported by the company in its own materials (see Pinterest: official safety, eligibility or parent guidance (opens in new tab)). They are not independent safety guarantees, and Lowkey has not tested them.
