Labubu: The $30 Gremlins Hanging Off Every Backpack
What it is
Labubus are small plush monsters — bunny ears, toothy grin, vaguely feral — sold in blind boxes by Pop Mart. You don't pick which one you get; that's the point. Teens hang them off backpacks, belt loops, and purses like charms. Rare ones resell for multiples of retail, and drops sell out in minutes.
Why it's spreading
Blind boxes turn shopping into gambling-lite, and the hunt is the content — unboxing videos do huge numbers. Plus they're cute in an ugly-cute way that photographs perfectly.
The one thing to know
It's Beanie Babies mechanics with TikTok distribution. The resale market is the only part worth a raised eyebrow.
