The Boys
- Prime Video
- Platform rating: TV-MA
- 5 seasons
A deliberately adult superhero satire about celebrity, corporations and abuse of power. Superhero costumes do not make this comparable to a conventional teen action show.
TV-MA: made for adults.
This is the platform’s adult rating. Lowkey is explaining the show so you know what it is, not suggesting it for families or younger viewers.

Where it stands
Platform
Prime Video
Platform rating
TV-MA
Seasons
5 seasons
Episodes
The fifth and final season has 8 episodes.
Status
Complete after Season 5; Prime Video scheduled the series finale for May 20, 2026.
The rating is the one we checked on the platform. Ratings can differ by region and by episode. Independent content-review coverage also differs by season, and a review of an early season is not proof that every latest episode was reviewed.
The appeal
Why teens watch
The series subverts familiar superhero stories and provides outrageous, highly shareable moments. That may attract curiosity, but a funny reaction clip does not convey the full episode’s adult material.
Content advisory
What is in it
Language
Frequent, extreme profanity and sexually crude language occur. This is an adult series, not a lightly edgy superhero adventure.
Sex and romance
Explicit sexual material, nudity and sexual assault are significant warnings. Some scenes mix sex, humiliation and violence.
Violence
Graphic gore, mutilation, deaths and cruelty are frequent and intentionally shocking. Violence can arrive suddenly, including in scenes played for dark comedy.
Themes
Manipulation, authoritarianism, racism, sexual exploitation, addiction and corporate branding are central. Satire does not mean every viewer will recognize the critique.
Binge factor
Can they stop?
Shock-based cliffhangers can encourage watching beyond a comfortable limit. This is not a default family-watch recommendation; parents should preview before making any viewing decision.
Cast of characters

Memes and references
Homelander reaction images and the fictional Vought brand can circulate without the show’s satirical context. Liking a meme is not evidence that a teen understands or endorses the character.

Conversation starters
- What is the show criticizing about celebrity power?
- Does making a disturbing scene funny change what it is showing?
- What does a reaction meme leave out about the person it depicts?
