Music, podcasts and other audio, with recommendations and social features. A teen may use it for fandom, playlists and listening with friends. A familiar song library does not mean every podcast or recommended episode has the same content level.

The essentials
Age, contact, spending
Minimum age
US terms permit independent use from 13 with guardian consent below 18. Managed young-listener accounts have separate rules and availability.
Age check
Account eligibility uses supplied information and regional requirements. Explicit-content access can involve additional age rules in some markets.
Who can contact teens
Public profile, playlist and social features create visibility. Review the actual account’s current interaction features; a managed young-listener account has different restrictions.
Disappearing content
Listening history, saved music and public playlists are not designed as disappearing messages. Shared playlist links can circulate.
Public content
Profile and playlist visibility differ. Check what a follower or shared link can reveal instead of assuming all listening is private.
Spending
Premium subscriptions, audiobooks and other eligible paid services can add charges. Family plans and free managed accounts differ by market and offering.

Official controls
How to set them up
Use a managed account where eligible
From the parent’s Spotify account, follow the official managed-account setup and review explicit music, video and artist/song controls. For an ordinary teen account, review available explicit-content and device settings separately; do not promise all managed-child controls apply.

Privacy
What gets shared
Recommendations reflect listening activity. Review the current account privacy options and whether playlists disclose a teen’s routines or identity.
Safety
What parents should know
- Spotify’s official managed-account page describes music-only listening, restricted discoverability and no in-app purchases for those accounts.
- Explicit labels are supplied through content information and are not an independent review of every lyric or podcast discussion. Preview the specific material.
Safeguards described here are reported by the company in its own materials (see Spotify: official safety, eligibility or parent guidance (opens in new tab)). They are not independent safety guarantees, and Lowkey has not tested them.
