A platform of user-created games and social experiences, not one uniform game. A teen may play with friends, build experiences or buy avatar items. Check the specific experience, its maturity label and its communication rules rather than rating the whole platform from one visit.

The essentials
Age, contact, spending
Minimum age
Roblox supports different child, teen and adult experiences rather than one universal 13+ account rule. Content and communication eligibility depend on age checks and parental permission.
Age check
Roblox uses age checks for communication and age-restricted access. Linked parent accounts also verify adult status; requirements and permitted features depend on age group.
Who can contact teens
Game, friends and party chat have different rules. Parents can manage eligible communication settings, but the official guide warns that independently developed chat features are not covered by every platform control.
Disappearing content
Do not treat game chat as private or guaranteed to disappear. Other players can capture interactions and experiences may retain their own data.
Public content
An avatar and activity can be visible to other participants in an experience. Who can join, follow or communicate depends on account and game settings.
Spending
Robux, avatar items, subscriptions and experience purchases can add up. Set spending permissions and discuss that virtual currency is bought with real money.

How to set them up
Link a parent account
Open Settings → Parental Controls and link the child’s account to a verified parent account. Review content maturity, eligible communication, screen time and spending controls; available controls change with the child’s age.

Privacy
What gets shared
Keep real names, school details and contact information out of the profile and chat. A maturity label does not independently verify every participant.
Safety
What parents should know
- The official controls guide distinguishes platform chat from independently developed chat inside experiences.
- Restricted content and communication use age eligibility. Use the correct age and review each experience instead of relying solely on the store badge.
Safeguards described here are reported by the company in its own materials (see Roblox: official safety, eligibility or parent guidance (opens in new tab)). They are not independent safety guarantees, and Lowkey has not tested them.
